Jesus reveals Himself as the Good Shepherd, the legitimate ruler. He stands in contrast to the thieves and hired hands, who are focused on self-interest and self-preservation. One, a gain that is not theirs to take; the other, a life they are not willing to lose. Jesus is motivated by self-sacrifice rather than self-preservation. What a true, good, and beautiful Shepherd we have in Jesus.
