Jesus is not merely someone we could imitate or a teacher we should respect - he is the Christ and Son of God we are to believe in. Yet John's gospel warns us regularly that some only believe in Jesus for what he will do for us, not for who he is. This story of the Official and his dying son calls us to desire more than only physical healing.
